I discovered DJ’ing slightly later in my music career, but once I got hold of my first decks I was completely hooked. As a kid I got a kick out of putting ‘mood’ and ‘genre’ themed compilations together, trying to make sure the next song worked well with the previous one. Looking back, it’s obvious my inner DJ was waiting to be unleashed!
Over the years I have DJ’d at weddings, parties and corporate functions all over the UK, although mainly in the south east. I have DJ’d at many impressive venues such as grand stately homes, Cambridge university colleges and within complexes at modern sport stadiums.
As a DJ, I ensure I always play the right music at the right time and aim to always keep the dancefloor full. I can either combine a disco with live music or just focus on providing excellent disco music and lighting. I am adept at ‘reading the room’ to ensure that I can keep the dancefloor moving whilst playing something for everyone. The real skill comes from mixing the songs and I can guarantee that songs will be seamlessly mixed throughout to keep the party going for as long into the night as you require it. I have an excellent knowledge of all genres of music from the 1950s to present day and can cater for any audience. I am not precious about what I play, and can either ‘play it by ear’ using my knowledge and experience or I can work from your playlist or a combination of the two. I’m more than happy to take requests on the night.
It’s very important to get the lighting right and I ensure that the lighting fits the music and ‘feel’ at the right moments, rather than having the same lighting effects rotating throughout. All of my lighting effects are sound sensitive so they will always be responsive to music being played and my main rig is DMX’d, meaning that I have full control of the lights and can change them continually to fit the music. My rig includes: derbys, pars, strobes, a laser, scanners, LED messenger and a smoke machine amongst other effects. I can use some or all of my rig, I’ll liaise with you in advance. For the LED messenger, I can programme personalised messages that will be displayed as lights throughout the event (e.g. ‘Happy Birthday Sarah!’ or ‘Congratulations Chris and Allie!’).
My DJ set up includes: professional DJ software, a two channel controller, DJ booth with uplighting, 2800w PA system, mixing desk, unlimited song selection and music library.
